Air Jordan 6 Electric Green Review

By Anthony Levine, longtime sneaker collector.

My last AJ6 pickup were the Sport Blues. Continuing with building my Jordan collection back up, I now have these Air Jordan 6 Electric Green.

Air Jordan 6 Electric Green

The 6 originally released in 1991 and was apparently inspired my Michael Jordan’s love of sports cars. Hence the rear “spoiler” pulltab.

This pair is a new colorway on the 6 and appears to basically be the Infrared 6, with the infrared bits swapped out for electric green.

Overall it seems like these are being slept on. I was able to get these on DTLR on the day of release. While they sold out initially, at the time I’m writing this they seem to randomly be popping in stock on sites and not many are talking about them. Most Jordans seem to sell out the first day on SNKRS but as other stores get stock in, we really see if there’s demand for these. Right now, the hype isn’t really there.

In any case, if people are sleeping, it’s a shame because in hand, the shoe looks great. Like many of these sleeper J’s, over time, the value still goes up so if you are debating getting these, it may not pay off to continue to wait.

Why I Got These

I’ve been slowly building back up my collection of non-Jordan-1-Jordans. When I saw pics of these around on social media, I thought they looked really dope, presenting an opportunity to get a 6 back in the stacks. While OGs are a good look, lately I been feeling picking up the newer colorways to add in some freshness to the rotation.

That said, there’s not really nostalgia for me on these as it’s a new colorway. I just thought they looked good and worthwhile if I could get them for retail!

I find the colorway to be very good on this shoe. To be honest, mostly black with lime green accents is a great color combo and one I’ve always liked. The blocking here is simple but it works. Jordan Brand would have had to try to mess these up! All they had to do was look at one of the most famous colorways in the black/infrared and just adapt that to neon green.

As with most Jordan retros these days, these are a bit of a mixed bag to some degree. I’ll get into the materials and details in a little bit but there may be elements of this seemingly simple shoe that some might not like. Overall though for me these look good and are a 6, and that was basically all I was looking for when I copped.

Details/Materials

Starting off we have Air Jordan lettering in black on the black rubberized top part of the tongue. The bulk of the tongue below this is neoprene mesh. The lace cover sports an electric green Jumpman. We have black nubuck eyelets leading down to a nubuck toebox with a black mudguard.

Moving to the side we get more nubuck so in case you haven’t guessed, the whole upper of this thing is pretty much nubuck. On some 6s, the vent holes on the side and ankle have a 3M quality to them but not on these

On the back we a Jumpman logo with AIR stitched into the back in black. The aforementioned pulltab is rubbery plastic and has an electric green accent.

The insole is black with a green Jumpman. The outsole is black and translucent with a green Jumpman. The translucent parts are more of your standard type of translucent color rather than the icey blue color Jordan Brand sometimes uses. I believe the Grade School versions of this shoe have some parts on the outsole that glow in the dark, but these do not.

These ship with a set of flat black laces and an electric green lacelock. When I first started collecting sneakers, the lacelock by the toe was a popular way to rock 6s so I’m keeping with my own traditions here.

So, exactly what you expect, we get the shoes plus some spare laces. Again, these are a GR and that’s all I thought would be in the box.

How is the Quality on the Air Jordan 6 Electric Green?

The materials here are kind of meh. We have the rubbery plastics and neoprene which are pretty much standard stuff here for the 6, nothing to really speak of.

The nubuck on the upper is the main material and it doesn’t feel special at all, just basic. Mostly thin cuts, not sandpaper but not really soft either. The materials do not have me feeling excited about the quality.

Still, this comes with the territory of many Jordan retros. I’m not really looking at this shoe thinking about how the suede is going to be so good. In some cases we luck out and get a more premium set of materials almost like a bonus. I figured these would be basic, and that’s pretty much what it is.

My mentality here is: I like how the shoe looks, and that’s why I got it. Different shoes are good for different reasons, and it’s not always purely materials. If materials is always important for every shoe for you then these are a skip.

The QC seems about as good as expected for GR Jordans. The paint and glue particularly around the midsole looks ok but not perfect. Nothing worth crying over. Overall I’m feeling these shoes but not because of the materials or QC.

How Do The Air Jordan 6 Electric Green Fit?

The Jordan 6 Electric Green fit true to size. The AJ6 generally has a bit of extra roominess compared to earlier Jordan models.

The overall comfort here is pretty good! The nubuck on the upper isn’t super stiff, so these don’t really require too much break in. The generous fit helps as well with this.

We get a visible Air unit in the back as far as the tech on these. Like many retros, I don’t really feel it that much just walking around. For the most part we have some solid support here. You won’t be impressed by the underfoot cushion here, but it’s not uncomfortable.

Overall, I’d say the Air Jordan 6 Electric Green is decently comfy. I think the model might be a bit bulky for me for all day wear but not uncomfortable. If I had to rock these for a few hours I totally could with no problem. I’m sure many of us by now have tried on comfier shoes than a Jordan retro. I find these to be on the comfier side for this type of a retro basketball shoe thanks to the roomy upper.

Final Thoughts

The three reasons I got these are: rebuilding my Jordan collection, I like the colorway and I remember the 6s being comfortably roomy for Jordans. Luckily, the materials aren’t quite as important here because these could have been beefier in that department in my opinion.

Seems like people generally aren’t really picking up this pair, but I think they’re worth another look if you’re a fan of 6s or Jordan retros in general. Colorways like these might not be as hyped when they drop, but they will eventually become tougher to get like many similar releases from the brand.

The comfort here is basic underfoot and roomy up top. I kind of like that although the shoe is a bit clunky. Some of that is the sizing but also it’s a retro of a model that was always a bit bulky when worn casually. This is a style employed on many basketball shoes in the 90s. The fit to some degree puts me in a retro “zone” when I feel them on my feet. Regardless, that colorway is hitting! I still think they look great on feet which is really all I want from them!
